Please show your support for fellow TWA members and Ann Cook and Steve Meador this month. Ann will  be signing "Micanopy in Shadow" at the Carrollwood Barns & Noble on July 12th at 6pm, and at the University Village on July 22nd at 2pm.
Steve Meador's book "Throwing Percy from the Cherry Tree" won a national poetry book contest at a small press in NC, D-N Publishing. It was released in April and is available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble  and the publisher's site (which is being updated)
www.d-npublishing.com  It has done very well at Amazon, several times falling into the 20,000s in sales ranking. That is somewhat exciting considering they sell millions of books. A second printing is coming soon since the publisher is running low on inventory already. You can contact Ann at Acook1@tampabay.rr.com
and Steve at: meador.poetry@gmail.com. Congratulations to both and good luck!

President Michaels' Monthly Message:

Spotlight is on: Julie Ann Howell. She is the president of Peppertree Press in Sarasota. Having only been open for business since January of 2006, Peppertree Press already has 83 authors published or in process of being published under 103 titles. The Peppertree Press team have been very busy. Meet up with us for a energizing meeting in August!

Here are some words from Julie and Teri:

Welcome to the Peppertree Press, a Sarasota, Florida Professional Publishing Company where Seeds are Planted and Flourish Worldwide!

An opportunity is clearly defined as a favorable or advantageous circumstance, or simply a chance for progress or advancement. As the late Eleanor Roosevelt so eloquently stated, "If you prepare yourself... you will be able to grasp opportunity for a broader experience when it appears."... A wise woman indeed, if I say so myself, she virtually pinpointed my thoughts when The Peppertree Press came to fruition in January 2006.

My name is Julie Ann Howell, Publisher/President, and along with Teri Franco, Editorial Director are proud to introduce to you a company that offers professional publishing with a personal touch!

Together we have planted the book publishing seed and with great enthusiasm have launched this fine company to aspiring authors who have dreams and aspirations of turning their manuscripts into masterpieces. Based in Sarasota, Florida, our authors are coming from all over the globe and embracing this opportunity in both hands and are able to share their untold stories worldwide.

All projects that come to The Peppertree Press are thoroughly screened and evaluated before acceptance and are professionally edited and enhanced by our graphic design team. We are proud of our authors, who have incorporated meticulous research and a passion for writing that shows how they care for their readership. In addition, each author has a relationship with The Peppertree Press for promoting their book through public speaking, book signings, reading festivals, and contacts with both print and electronic media. We welcome you to go on the grand tour of our Web site at www.peppertreepublishing.com and take the first step in turning your manuscript into the next bestseller. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely from both of us,

Julie Ann Howell; Publisher/President

Teri Franco; Editorial Director.

Greetings from Michael Darling:
I met an incredibly talented artist at the science fiction convention I attended
last month in Panama City. His name is Garrett DeChellis and he just graduated from the Ringling College of Art and Design. He was selling his artwork at the convention. I bought a poster and swapped contact info with him. I was so impressed that I plan to use him on future projects of mine. Garrett will be residing in St. Pete beginning in August. His rates are very good, cheap in fact considering the exceptional quality of art he produces. The actual rates depend on how complex the artwork you need is. Garrett is not limited to just science fiction or fantasy either. If you are in need of a very good artist for covers or anything else, even before August, please shoot him an e-mail at GDeChell@gmail.com

President's Invitation...
Here’s an open offer to listen to any member’s ideas or concerns about the TWA. Please e-mail any such or just a friendly hello to make contact with me at darling@HopliteRenegades.com. I encourage you all to do so at your convenience. Please let me know what resources (anything from moral support to volunteering to information) you can offer to the TWA. Or let me know what the TWA can do better for you. I really do want to know what you think.

The Tampa Writers Alliance is an organization of writers in the Tampa Bay area covering many genres and levels of experience. The Alliance membership includes published novelists, travel book authors, feature and newspaper journalists, and others who are just beginning to write or just have an interest in the literary world. All enjoy the networking opportunities, programs and peer critiques offered by the various work groups. Membership is open to all adults, and the public is invited to attend all general meetings. The Alliance supports the community as judges for the Hillsborough Teachers of English annual writing contest and through workshops and presentations to schools about writing.

 Tampa Writers Alliance Critique Groups:

TWA Critique Group Coordinator – Charles Greenwood

Charles is taking some time off, and Warner Conarton will be leading the group for a while.

The Tampa Writers Critique Group meets 2nd  &  4th  Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
NO MEETINGS IN DECEMBER.
Please e-mail submissions to Warner Conarton, in the subject line of your e-mail, mention "TWA Critique Group" This group meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 7-9 PM in the right rear of the Barnes and Noble bookstore at 11802 North Dale Mabry Highway.

Visitors are welcome to attend but only members' works will be discussed, generally 4-5 pieces per session. Works to be critiqued are distributed to TWA members via e-mail approximately two weeks before the next scheduled meeting. The author has a chance to respond after verbal critiques are finished. Emphasis is on constructive criticism. (HHhmm...What is constructive criticism?)

TWA Poetry Group Coordinator - Warner Conarton,

The Tampa Writers Alliance Poetry Group meets on the 4th Thursday of every month, (excluding December and important holidays,) at the Barnes and Noble Booksellers (North.)  That's just south of Stall Road on North Dale Mabry in Tampa. (Fletcher is one traffic light further north than Stall.)  We meet at 7 pm.  We sit around the table in the back and enjoy each other's poetry. Sometime a dozen of us, sometime twice that.  It's not a big, noisy thing, although sometime folks bring songs and an occasional guitar or bong drums. Most stuff goes, unless it is totally gross.  It's a membership thing, but anyone's invited a couple of times to check us out. The TWA is a splendid support organization for writers and poets and playwrights. Come by, bring copies of your writing so we can share.
