Hurricanes by Carol Young

they tease and swirl
never show the path
just hint at the strength
of their destruction
while millions cower in fear
of the power of loss
and the loss of power
as wind and water
join forces
should we who so willingly pollute
be surprised
at nature’s fierce reply
with earth and sky
why
are we so afraid of change
that floods and howls
no matter how quietly
we slumber
through this storm
we call
a life
well lived
