Barnes and Noble, Carrolwood (Meeting room in the back of the store)
TWA’s instant gratification, very short story contest will offer blind judging, immediate feedback, and first, second & third place prizes!
How the contest will work:
- Write a story of any genre or topic (excluding children’s and YA fiction)
- Limit word count to 500 words
- Follow formatting guidelines below
- Submit your original, unpublished work (in print or website) to critique@tampawriters.org by NOON on JULY 1, 2019
- LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
- Entries will be read in order received. Due to time constraints, TWA does not guarantee all submissions will be read, so procrastinate at your own risk
- Anonymous submissions will be projected via PowerPoint and read aloud
- Audience members will score each entry in the following categories: creativity, writing conventions, dialogue, emotion, satisfying ending, and overall impression
- Scores will be tallied, and three winners will be announced at the close of the meeting
- Entrants will receive scoring rubrics for feedback
- The three highest scoring pieces will win Barnes&Noble gift cards
Formatting your submission:
- Word doc, twelve-point font, double spaced, one-inch margins, 500-word limit
- Include your name, email, title & word count on the document
- NAMES will be hidden for blind judging during the contest
This will be a fun and positive night to celebrate the art, motivate writers, and encourage each other to submit our writing.
In addition to the contest, this workshop will:
- Explain how entering creative writing competitions can lead to publication
- Reveal where to find the best contests for you
- Give tips on writing to win
